Imagine this: Forces in power begin to waiver. Young upstarts attempt an insurrection to right the course of a galaxy far far away. In the heat of conflict, fans everywhere ride along as an adventure ensues, enjoying the exploits of heroes, and fall of a failed regime.
You might think this is the plot of the next Star Wars movie. It’s not. It’s real life. Rumors abound, claiming that there is a changing of the guard occurring at Disney in the executive management that controls the Star Wars franchise. Apparently, the fan reaction related to the Last Jedi, and it’s cohort of films, The Force Awakens, and The Rise of Skywalker, has led to a rethinking of the Star Wars franchise.
Continued news comes from the Star Wars camp about how the latest trilogy will be wiped out of the Star Wars Canon, and a new course will be plotted. Kathleen Kennedy, a masterful movie maker in her own right, is taking the blame on this one. Rian Johnson, and the great JJ Abraams are also included in the discussion.
Whether it comes to fruition or not, it’s nice to know that abandonment of the franchise is not a foregone conclusion. The Star Wars franchise has a lot more to give, as has been made readily apparent by the fantastic new Mandalorian series, and a continued stream of cartoons, like the Clone Wars, Rebels, and The Resistance on the new Disney Plus streaming platform.
Star Wars Fans may have been frustrated by the new trilogy, and it’s abandonment of old themes. But, rest assured folks, Disney’s not done trying to right the ship, and keep the fans happy. And while Disney is still intent on making money from the franchise, you can hold fast to the notion that there will be many more hours of fun television, movies, games and literature forthcoming.
Enjoy!
